So a few Sundays ago Maggie The Wonder Dog and I went a bit further than our usual walk. There was this line going up the ridge to the west of the house that I was curious about. An older dog that sometimes tags along had slept through our departure, so we had [...] I’m living in an off-grid home right now, out in the desert not far from the Mexican border. Very quiet and somewhat isolated. There are animals staying there, including a half-bobcat who appears and disappears like a black eidolon, mostly at night. One of the three dogs is fit for long walks, so [...] Yesterday I took an impromtu long walk: Started by hiking up and across the Faulty Trail to Bart’s Trail, then up that to the Crest Trail, taking it north to the Cienega Trail, and back down on that. The Crest Trail is rewarding in several ways. There is solitude; I did not see anyone [...] Looks like it might stick this time. Up in the mountains the ground is still soft in places from snowmelt, one of the springs along the Faulty Trail is now a creek with small waterfalls and gurgles, and the birds sound more sanguine.
